OVERVIEW

Under direction of the Party Chief, assist party chief with tasks in the field ranging from making field measurement to staking out construction lines. Assignments are designed to further develop the incumbent’s job knowledge and abilities.

EDUCATION

 

A high school education or equivalent is required. Additional surveying field procedure trainings are preferred.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • A minimum of 1 year total survey experience.
  • Must be experienced in controlling the function of surveying instruments and calculators.
  • Some experience with GPS and total stations.
  • Must be physically able to carry heavy loads (50 lbs).
  • Must be able and willing to travel.
  • Must be able to work in inclement weather.  

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Work with surveying measurement equipment.
  • Perform duties to maintain field vehicle.
  • Understand basic principles of surveying.
  • Drive wooden stakes and hubs for construction layout.
  • Basic knowledge of monumentation, staking and marking.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The role of Survey Assistant 1is to collaborate within a multi-discipline team in an effort to fully develop, deliver and complete a successful project.  As part of this collaborative effort, this role requires the presence of the individual working within a group setting, with regular interaction during meetings and one-on-one, face-to-face discussions with other individuals on the team on a daily basis.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Must be able to speak, read and write English. Spanish language skills are preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Lifting and carting axes and other equipment
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs is required.
  • Vision must be clear at close and distance with depth perception and the ability to focus.
  • Use of brush axe or machete to clear areas
  • Kneeling, stooping and bending
  • Ability to walk, stand, reach, climb and balance.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Exposure to outdoor weather conditions including extreme temperature and weather and grassy/rocky or steep terrain.
