OVERVIEW

The Project Contracts Manager will report directly to the Sr. Contracts Manager and will be embedded within the business supporting operations and project management teams on project contract matters. The position will lead the contract and change management effort for the prime contract, and support procurement and subcontracts throughout the project execution phase (i.e. project kick-off through project close-out) in accordance with the Project Execution Plan (PEP) and Project Procedures Manual (PPM).

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides operational decision making and other technical guidance to project teams and other personnel supporting contracts or claims activities/administration, as assigned, reporting directly to the Project Manager while receiving functional guidance from the Legal Department and the Senior Contracts Manager.

 

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred.  Risk Management, Business Administration, Legal or equivalent industry experience also considered.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • EPC industry experience preferred.
  • Advanced written, oral and organizational communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen in aligning contractual and commercial decisions.
  • 5+ years’ experience in roles involving Contract Management, Project Controls or Subcontract Management, preferably in the EPC project environment.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS AND DIGITAL COLLABORATION EXPECTATIONS:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required for effective communication, reporting, and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams is required, including participation in virtual meetings, collaboration through chat and channels, document sharing, and coordination with distributed project teams.
  • Ability to effectively use digital tools to support project coordination, reporting, scheduling updates, and communication across engineering, procurement, construction, and client teams.
  • Comfortable working in a technology-enabled construction environment, including use of laptops, tablets, and mobile devices to access drawings, schedules, procedures, and project data.
  • Working/basic knowledge of scheduling software (Ex. Microsoft Project, Primavera, etc.)
  • Willingness to adapt to evolving Company systems, software platforms, and digital workflows as project and business needs change.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the administration of prime contracts with Company customers, exercising discretion and independent judgment over administration of contractual and project matters.
  • Responsible for managing risk and change management during project execution. May also assist in the review and analysis of subcontracts and purchase order agreements.
  • Responsible for the preparation of change management documents, reports and presentations.
  • Responsible for compliance with contract terms, including timelines, deliverables, payment schedules, and performance obligations of project teams.
  • Upon assignment to project team, participates in prime contract pursuit strategies and/or subcontracting strategies to mitigate project risks.
  • Upon assignment to project team, serve as project member in the execution and maintenance of change management activities, including variations, extensions, and/or amendments, and ensures proper documentation.
  • Leads the change management process, including, but not limited to, the identification of entitlement to change, quantum impacts of changes, tracking of change requests, negotiation strategy, presentation of change orders, claim preparation, and claim management.
  • Assist project management teams to ensure proper project correspondence and documentation is generated and exists in the event of a disputed claim.
  • Communicate and present information to internal/external stakeholders about all change management matters.
  • Provide support, as needed, to the Procurement and Subcontracts team in the review of purchase order or subcontract agreements with lower tier vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Assist the assigned project attorney, as appropriate, on all project contractual matters, claims, and disputes.
  • As needed, review meeting minutes, track action items, escalate issues, and consolidate updates for management.

 

LANGUAGE AND BUSINESS SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret project and contract documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries from project team members. Ability to effectively draft and present information to management, project teams and internal legal support.  General project execution and documentation knowledge. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities are required. Strong written communication is required.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to travel and potentially office at project sites when the need arises to engage with the project team for information gathering purposes; primarily domestic with the possibility of international travel may be required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasionally, will office at or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site.  This requires the ability to hear, as well as the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise or an operating plant/construction site.  This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.  Must meet customer/client’s site entry requirements, including background check, drug and alcohol screening.
