OVERVIEW

S&B is currently seeking a Sr. Project Led to join our team. Normally this position carries the functional title of Area Project Lead and has responsibility for the engineering design of multiple areas or process unit(s) on a project. Reports to the Project Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The On-Site Project Engineer will serve as S&B’s permanent site-based representative and be the primary day-to-day interface between local site personnel and S&B’s office execution teams. This individual will help facilitate integration of project execution activities between S&B and the site, support development of new project scopes, and provide on-site coordination to improve alignment, responsiveness, and overall project delivery.

EDUCATION

  • Normally requires a 4-year degree in Engineering. Equivalent work experience may substitute with Management approval.  
  • Registration as a licensed professional engineer is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related technical discipline preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Five plus years (preferred) of demonstrated experience as a Project Engineer, Project Manager, or similar project execution role in refining, petrochemical, or industrial facilities.
  • Strong understanding of brownfield project execution, field coordination, and owner-contractor interface management.
  • Ability to develop project scopes and support early project planning activities.
  • Strong communication, organization, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with site operations, maintenance, engineering, construction, and contractor personnel.
  • Working knowledge of project controls, schedule coordination, and execution planning is preferred.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and responsive client service.
  • Ability to work independently with remote supervision. Self-starter.
  • Must be willing and able to work in the field.
  • All candidates must pass background checks, drug screening and qualify for issuance of TWIC credentials.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the primary on-site liaison between local client staff and S&B engineering, project management, and support personnel.
  • Facilitate efficient communication, coordination, and issue resolution between refinery stakeholders and S&B offices.
  • Support integration of project execution activities across engineering, procurement, construction, and site operations.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) coordination activities by helping track, communicate, and facilitate required inputs, reviews, and approvals between site personnel and S&B teams.
  • Assist in identifying, developing, and defining new project scope opportunities in coordination with client personnel and S&B teams.
  • Coordinate field information gathering, site walkthroughs, and scope validation to support development of project deliverables, estimates, and execution plans.
  • Help align project priorities, technical requirements, schedules, and work processes between client personnel and S&B project teams.
  • Provide on-site input to improve constructability, operability, maintainability, and overall execution readiness for proposed and active work.
  • Monitor project interfaces, communicate emerging concerns, and help drive timely decisions to minimize delays, rework, and execution risk.
  • Participate in client meetings, planning sessions, scope reviews, and other project coordination activities as required.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with the site operations, maintenance, engineering, and project stakeholders while representing S&B in a professional manner.
  • Supporting work safe practices and ensuring coordination efforts are consistent with site requirements and S&B procedures.
  • Provide regular status updates to S&B leadership regarding project opportunities, execution issues, priorities, and client coordination needs.
  • Perform as Project Manager for small projects.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Job success often hinges upon interpersonal communication and relationship development skills, and job tasks require frequent interchange, and successful completion depends in large part upon effective interaction and communication with others.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as cost and schedule risk analysis and estimating techniques.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasionally, will conduct or participate in field trips to existing plants.  This requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance.  Lifting of 25 pounds may be required.  It also requires clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Frequently, will conduct or participate in construction meetings at job sites in operating plants.  This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals and airborne particles.
