S&B is seeking a Manager of Development Operations to lead the development team and is responsible for overseeing and coordinating personnel, resources, and processes necessary to deliver new software solutions or upgrade existing products. Accountable for end-to-end secure delivery across a hybrid enterprise environment, spanning legacy systems and modern cloud platforms, with a strong focus on advancing cloud-native and containerized application patterns. Plays a key role in the organization’s technology modernization efforts, helping evolve existing systems and practices toward scalable, secure, automated, and cloud-aligned architectures. Fosters a culture of continuous improvement in all areas of technology and instills the principles of this culture in a team of developers.  Must have 6 years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Will Supervise up to 20-25 developers

 

EDUCATION:

Four-year college degree in related field or equivalent and 6 years of supervisory experience

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrate ability to be a customer facing manager with hands-on technical expertise required to architect and manage a DevOps Team with 6-8 years’ experience in modern software development, architecture, and DevOps
  • Experience in agile tooling (Jira, Confluence, etc.), version control systems (Git, SVN, etc.), and deployment strategies that support both iterative and continuous development
  • Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure and operations to ensure the scalability and maintainability of cloud native applications
  • Extensive experience in developing, deploying, and integrating software solutions
  • Working in environments with modern application development stacks, including:
    • Java (backend development)
    • Go (backend development)
    • ReactJS (frontend development)
    • Azure DevOps (CI/CD pipelines, release management, and work tracking)
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, including build automation, testing, and deployment across multiple environments
  • Experience working within Kubernetes/AKS containerized and cloud-native environments including application deployment, scaling, and operational support
  • Strong ability to coach developers, helping them improve their skills and grow their careers

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Python (automation, scripting, or data-related workloads)
  • Experience with Agile development and release practices.
  • ITIL familiarity and experience.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to technology strategy and planning; research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts; recommend introduction of technologies, new features, or other non-functional requirements for implementation that will increase cost effectiveness and systems flexibility.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate procedures and processes.
  • Provide guidance to the team and ensure they adhere to development standards.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and ensure the completion of tasks and projects.
  • Create strategic targets for the team and provide mentoring and training.
  • Identify skills needed for support and development projects and recruit team members.
  • Recruit, hire and manage full-time developers, contractors, and consultants.
  • Evaluate performance of staff.
  • Resource allocation on development projects and support.
  • Ensures properly quality assurance processes.
  • Solve complex technical challenges.
  • Enforces DevOps pipeline for projects.
  • Weekly 1-1s with developers to provide career guidance.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical systems documentation.  Job success often hinges upon interpersonal communication and relationship development skills, and job tasks require frequent interchange and successful completion depends in large part upon effective interaction and communication with others.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Basic mathematical and algebraic equations required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to operating plants, construction sites or other office complexes.  This requires the ability to stand, walk, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise.  Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to operating plants, construction sites or other office complexes.  This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noises, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
