OVERVIEW

S&B is currently seeking a remote employee to support our West Monroe, LA team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work under general direction, undertaking a range of design assignments that require the application of fundamental design techniques in accordance with both company and industry standards and codes. While some assignments may involve routine tasks, others may require more complex design concepts, for which detailed instructions will be provided by your immediate supervisor.  As a valued member of our team, you will play a vital role in contributing to the success of our projects. EDUCATION

 

High school graduate with vo-tech training in basic drafting technology (or equivalent working knowledge/experience), or a 2-year degree in drafting/design technology 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

This is the most senior-level drafting position where the incumbent is primarily performing complex manual drafting assignments but has not made the transition to Designer status. Normally requires a high school graduate with vo-tech training in basic drafting technology and typically 3 years related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience), or a 2-year degree in drafting/design technology and 2 years related experience. Incumbent must demonstrate proficiency in utilizing manual drafting techniques for a variety of non-routine assignments and a working knowledge of CADD for various standard applications. Pulp & Paper experience preferred but not required.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares complete sets of drawings which involve multiple views, detail drawings, assembly drawings, facilities, or systems where minimal information is provided by rough sketches and/or verbal outlines of requirements.  Incumbent utilizes either manual or computer-assisted drafting/design techniques.
  • Reviews manufacturers' or fabricators' prints for necessary design information (footprint, weights, loads, etc.)
  • Determines material needs and makes necessary calculations using accepted formulas and references.
  • Supports field assignments as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Occasionally may conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at a construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
