OVERVIEW

We are seeking a detail-oriented Instrumentation Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in instrumentation, with the ability to interpret and work with Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and proficiently use Microsoft Excel and Word. The Instrumentation Specialist will be responsible for selecting and specifying instruments, performing calculations, maintaining documentation, and ensuring the timely issuance of packages.

  • Degree in Engineering

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Read and interpret P&IDs: Analyze and interpret P&ID diagrams to ensure accurate specification and installation of instrumentation.
  • Specification of instruments: Select, specify, and document appropriate instruments based on process requirements and industry standards.
  • Perform calculations: Conduct necessary calculations for instrument selection, including flow, pressure, temperature, and level measurements.
  • Documentation management: Create, update, and maintain all relevant instrumentation documents, such as datasheets, reports, and instrument indexes, using Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Issue instrumentation packages: Ensure the timely preparation and submission of complete instrumentation packages for review and approval.
  • Collaboration and coordination: Work closely with engineering teams, vendors, and project managers to ensure instrumentation is aligned with project requirements.
  • Compliance and standards: Ensure all instrumentation specifications and documents comply with applicable industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Problem-solving: Identify and troubleshoot instrumentation issues in design and documentation.

 

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Experience in specifying and selecting instruments for various processes.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to perform technical calculations and analyze data.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and deliver packages on time.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

 

Preferred:

    • Previous experience in the oil & gas, chemical, or manufacturing industries.
    • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., ISA, ANSI, API).

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

 

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Occasionally may conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal work environment is an operating plant or construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
