OVERVIEW

S&B is currently seeking a Senior Contracts Manager to join our team. This individual will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Project Risks and will work closely with the Operational and Project Leadership Teams. The Senior Contracts Manager plays a key role in developing project plans, contracting strategies, and overseeing contract management activities. They also contribute to project planning and execution while safeguarding the company's contractual interests. This individual is skilled in translating business and project needs into contractual requirements to minimize risk, as well as assessing the implications of changes in project scope.

Potential to oversee staff of contract professionals.

 

EDUCATION

 

Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Legal or equivalent industry experience.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • EPC industry experience preferred.
  • Strong oral, written, and organizational communication skills.

10+ years Contract Management, Project Controls, Supply Chain, Risk, Legal experience, preferably in the EPC project environment.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Under general supervision operationally to the project manager, administratively and functionally under the direction of the SVP of Project Risks.
  • Serves as project member in the formulation of plans, project contracting strategies and the execution of the overall contract management activity and assists in the planning and execution of projects.
  • Provides first line of preservation and protection of the Company’s day to day contractual interests.
  • Effectively able to decipher and interpret business/project needs into contractual requirements/procedures to mitigate risk, along with analyzing the impact of changes as new constraints are introduced.
  • Directs the development of all project contracts management activities including, but not limited to, development of individual contract strategies, Request for Proposals, evaluations, awards, contract management, claims mitigation, and project close-out as direct by operational and/or project teams.
  • Maintain records for correspondence and documentation in relation to the primary contract and those in progress.
  • Communicate and present information to internal/external stakeholders about all contract-related matters.
  • Conduct formal and informal contract training sessions for all levels of project professionals.
  • Able to travel at times extensively to project sites and office at project sites.
  • Assist and, at times, work under the direction of project staff attorneys.
  • Apprise project personnel of and maintain contractual time constraints, conditions precedent, notice provisions and manage version control of project documents.
  • Performs contracts management activities in accordance with general business acumen, corporate Operating System Requirements (OSR), and the established project and Contracts Management Plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversee and manage Contract Management process on the project from Pre-Award, Post-Award through Close-Out in accordance with the Project Execution Plan (PEP) and Project Procedures Manual (PPM), including claims and back charges.
  • Support preparation of bid evaluation and negotiation plans for large engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction (EPFC) Request for Proposal (RFP) packages and participate in both technical and commercial bid evaluation; assist Project and Engineering Managers with preparing scope, schedule, and other technical documents for the RFP process.
  • Ability to collaborate across multi-functional teams to solve problems and address challenges.
  • Protect the Company's and Client's interests by enforcing warranties, mitigating risk, and providing oversight to project management teams.
  • Other duties as assigned by either project leadership team or SVP Project Risks.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to clients, public groups and/or boards of directors.

 

TRAVEL DEMANDS

 

Domestic and international travel may be required.

 

BUSINESS ACUMEN

 

General business and financial knowledge. Strong negotiation skills which will require interpersonal skills, communication skills as well as problem solving skills. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site.  This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.  Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise.  Occasionally, may visit an operating plant or construction site.  This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.  Must meet Client’s site entry requirements, including drug and alcohol test.
