OVERVIEW

S&B is currently seeking a talented and dynamic Senior Process Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in various refining operations. Depending on the candidate, the role will either be to act as staff refining specialist for a team of process engineers, or as a lead process engineer on multiple small projects or for a major project. Requires in depth knowledge and experience in Process/Design Engineering, as well as ability to independently make decisions on significant process design problems and methods.

 

Summary of position requirements:

  • Senior engineer with heavy refining experience
  • Experience with early FEL projects
  • Simulation experience a plus but not required
  • Will act as refining subject matter expert for team and may also coordinate activities for small early FEL projects
  • Will interact with client to help scope early FEL projects and develop options

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Responsible for technical direction and assistance over a group of engineers and technicians assigned to highly complex projects in refineries.  May function as a group leader over less experienced engineers and technicians, responsible for coordinating and reviewing progress of group activities.

 

EDUCATION

 

Normally requires at least a four-year degree in Chemical Engineering.    

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

Requires a minimum of fifteen (15) years experience in Process/Design Engineering or related functional area (or equivalent working knowledge/experience). Stongly prefer refining experience.  This includes proficiency in utilizing various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment.

 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes client requirements and designs process and plant facilities.
  • Develops Process engineering requirements for the design, control and operation of a process plant. 
  • Prepares design basis, PFDs, equipment specifications, and P&IDs.
  • Communicates Process design to client and other design disciplines.
  • Participates in or facilitates Process safety reviews.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, managers, designers and engineers.    

 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

 

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Occasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally, may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at an construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
