S&B is actively searching for an experienced Project Lead to join our team in Lake Jackson, TX.  The Project Engineer has responsibility for the engineering design of multiple areas or process unit(s) on a project. Reports to a Project Engineer III, Project Lead III or Project Manager. Coordinates all design engineering disciplines for a particular work area. May be placed in responsible charge of small projects under 10,000 manhours of engineering. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Project Engineer II is responsible for the overall quality and timeliness of the work from all discipline personnel assigned to the area, and the coordination of the discipline leads. Also, may be responsible for the personnel in engineering support groups charged with tracking cost, progress, and schedule. On larger projects, may be responsible for the work of one or more Project Engineer I's or Project Lead I's.

 

EDUCATION

 

Normally requires a four-year BS degree in engineering. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Requires a minimum of six (6) years total experience, four (4) in one or more of the discipline areas, or in an engineering support role, and two (2) years as a Project Lead I. Equivalent working knowledge and experience may substitute for work in a discipline or at the project level. Must have sound knowledge of the various software packages and automated engineering and reporting systems used at S&B.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize several small cap projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in Petrochemical and Chlor Alkali is a plus.
  • Field experience / exposure to chemical and refining facilities preferred – construction exposure a plus.
  • Candidate can expect 80% office environment / 20% field engagement – mostly in the Brazosport area.

 

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Obtains a well-defined overall project scope of work from the project manager or client.
  • Participates in progress reporting to the client, oral and written.
  • Communicates with the client and other groups and departments working on the project.
  • Approves all P&ID's revised or created for the project.
  • Approves all new or revised drawings, standards, and specifications.
  • Ensures accuracy of discipline audits and reviews deviations.
  • Approves all inquiries and requisitions for engineered/tagged equipment and instruments.
  • Initiates project change orders any time changes to scope affect the budget or schedule.
  • Promotes good work habits and attitudes within the various disciplines.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and standards, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, managers, designers, and engineers.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

 

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

Occasionally, will conduct or participate in field trips to existing plants. This requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance. Lifting of 25 pounds may be required. It also requires clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

Normal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally, will conduct or participate in field trips to existing plants. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, working near moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals and airborne particles.
